Using VMware to create honeypots

by @ 9:37 am. Filed under Musings, Virtualization

Kurt Seifried published a great article on using VMware to create “honeypots“. A honeypot is used to attract people looking for systems to take control of illegally. (Crackers)

The honeypot typically has a know weakness that the cracker can expose to take control. On the backend however, there is either someone, or software that tracks everything the cracker does.

You should note that Mr Seifried wrote this back in May of 2002. VMware technology has moved forward lightyears since then. However, the basic ideology behind this is still valid.
Give the article a read and share your thoughts.

On a different note, today is my youngest son’s 5th Birthday.  Happy Birthday Jack!
