Xen and VMware, Friends?

by @ 6:32 pm. Filed under Virtualization

When I opened my inbox I would the latest VMware partner letter with an mini article titled “What’s going on between the VMware, Xen, and Linux Communities?” The following paragraph stated:

“There has been press coverage lately that plays up a growing battle between VMware and Xen. Despite the headlines, the various groups focusing on Linux paravirtualization are actually working together well.”

It then provides a link to VMware’s VP of Technology Development Steve Herrod’s blog. Steve asserts that VMware and Xen are actually working together nicely. He even quotes Xensource’c CTO Simon Crosby as saying:

“The VMware team should be praised for engaging an open dialog with the Linux kernel and Xen communities, and they are actively engaging in the process.”

Maybe Xen and VMware are working together nicely. Maybe the “press” is trying to sensationalize a story that really shouldn’t be… Wouldn’t be the first time.
