Novell Completely MS Free?

by @ 9:54 am. Filed under Musings, Open Source

With the acquisition of SuSE Novell decided to attack the desktop market with their Novell Desktop Linux (NDL) product. Novell leveraged open source projects like Open Office, Firefox, and Samba to eliminate the need for Microsoft Windows. In fact, Novell went as far as to announce that they were going to purge the company of all copies of Windows. Even their sales reps would be using Linux on their laptops.

So what happened? Well, I know that they were almost completely converted, but lost contact with my “inside guys” at Novell. As a result I don’t know if they finished this project, or reverted back.

Does anyone out there know? With the latest deal between Microsoft and Novell I suspect that Windows is back in.
